Background, Summary & Overview
The Using Digital Media in the Classroom module allows the participants to experience some of the new and emerging technologies that are affecting classrooms and learning support. This course is aimed at teachers, teaching assistants and any other associated professionals who feel that they could benefit from this training.
This is a 6 week Level 4 course accredited through Hull University. This course is worth 10 CATS points individually and can be undertaken as part of the University of Hull's Foundation Award Module syllabus. The assessment is through a portfolio of evidence that is assessed at the end of the course that must show awareness and use of the different types of digital media presented to them during the course.

Action Taken
Teachers and associated professionals attended this course on a weekly basis and were presented with different applications for digital media that they can use in the context of the classroom.
The learners then reflect upon what they have seen in their learning log and the class as a whole discuss the applications of the technology in the classroom. The whole process culminates in the production of a portfolio of the learning undertaken.
Activities include: Using digital SLR cameras, importing still images, using digital video cameras, importing video footage, editing photographs & video footage, creating presentations, using the interactive whiteboard and using Apple Mac hardware and software (iLife, iWork & Pro Apps).
The learners then submit their learning log and their portfolio of evidence. This includes a slideshow of their pictures a video made by themselves and a presentation on the benefits of using digital media in the classroom.
Impact & Outcomes
The impact of the project has been wholly positive so far. All the students that completed a portfolio have been assessed and have gained accreditation for the course.
Many of the students are looking forward to the next unit that will be running in September 2007 and I have also had interest in the next run of this unit.
