Background, Summary & Overview

CC4G is a government sponsored initiative aimed girls to improve their skills and confidence in using IT.

Through a series of programmes based on issues that would appeal to girls in this age group (music, fashion, quizzes etc) members are given an opportunity to improve their skills. The programmes are very inclusive, being challenging whilst ensuring everyone can achieve at some level.

The CC4G at Rawmarsh CLC is held from 3:30 to 5pm on a Monday evening. Its members are from years 4-6.

Action Taken

The club administrators received information and resources to begin the club. We targeted girls in primary schools largely as part of a bridging exercise between our school and its feeder primaries. We selected a fairly simple programme to begin with and found the tasks to be interesting and challenging for our members.

Initially they did need quite a substantial amount of support but they now approach new programmes with enthusiasm and confidence and for most members we are almost a back up. However, this has given us time to work on an individual basis with some of our less able members and the progress they have made has reflected the effectiveness of this approach.

We have attended training days whenever possible and have found them interesting and informative.

Impact & Outcomes

As previously stated, all members have improved their computer skills and all seem to have a much greater confidence in tackling the challenges of the different programmes.

Even in quite basic areas such as moving images around the screen, saving to a folder, printing documents etc we have seen an improvement in skills. This coupled with the creativity required to complete the programmes has successfully challenged all our members to try new techniques and to learn from those which did not work well.

I am sure that this confidence will be reflected in how they use IT in all areas of the curriculum when they are working in their own schools.
